๐Ÿง  1. Reading Section: My Childhood Memory

Text:

When I was a kid, I loved spending time in my grandmother’s garden. Every afternoon, I would water the flowers and play with my little cat named Mimi. My grandmother always told me stories about her childhood, and I listened carefully while eating mangoes from the tree behind her house.

I remember one funny moment — I tried to climb the mango tree to pick some fruit, but I got stuck halfway! My grandmother laughed and helped me get down safely. That day taught me to be brave but careful.

Now, when I think about my childhood, I realize how happy and simple life was back then.

We use the Simple Past Tense to talk about events that happened in the past.

Formula:
Subject + Verb (past form) + Object / Complement

Examples:

·         I played with my friends every day.

·         She visited her grandmother last week.

·         We were happy when we were kids.

Practice:
Change the verbs into the correct past form.

1.      I (go) to the beach when I was 7 years old.

2.      My father (teach) me how to ride a bike.

3.      We (watch) cartoons every Sunday morning.

4.      My friends (be) very funny and kind.

Use these guiding questions to tell your own story:

1.      Where did you grow up?

2.      What did you like to do when you were a kid?

3.      Who was your best friend?

4.      What was your favorite food or game?

5.      Do you have a funny or memorable childhood story?

Example Answer:

When I was a kid, I lived in a small village. I liked to fly kites and swim in the river with my friends. One day, my kite got stuck in a tree, and I cried so hard! My father helped me get it down, and I was so happy. That’s one of my favorite childhood memories.

 

6. Assignment

Write a short essay (around 100–150 words) with the title “My Childhood Story.”
Include:

·         Your favorite activity as a child

·         A memorable or funny experience

·         What you learned from that experience

Mastering Everyday English - Commands, Past Time, & Childhood Memories Lesson 10

Halo, pelajar bahasa Inggris! Selamat datang di pelajaran baru di blog "Belajar Bahasa Inggris". Pada Lesson 10 ini, kita akan membahas tiga topik praktis yang akan sangat berguna dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Mari kita pelajari bersama!

Part 1: Telling People to Do Something (Memberi Perintah/Saran)

Dalam bahasa Inggris, kita sering perlu menyuruh, meminta, atau menasihati seseorang untuk melakukan sesuatu. Berikut adalah cara-cara umum untuk melakukannya.

A. Imperative Sentences (Kalimat Perintah)

Strukturnya sangat sederhana: Verb 1 + Object.

·         Positive (Menyuruh untuk melakukan):

o    Open the door. (Buka pintunya.)

o    Please, be quiet. (Harap, tenang.)

o    Call me later. (Telepon saya nanti.)

·         Negative (Menyuruh untuk TIDAK melakukan):

o    Don't + Verb 1

o    Don't be late! (Jangan terlambat!)

o    Don't forget your key. (Jangan lupa kuncimu.)

o    Don't eat too much candy. (Jangan makan terlalu banyak permen.)



B. Using "Let's" (Mari Kita...)

Gunakan "Let's" untuk mengajak seseorang melakukan sesuatu bersama.

·         Let's go to the cinema. (Ayo pergi ke bioskop.)

·         Let's practice English. (Ayo berlatih bahasa Inggris.)

·         Let's not argue about this. (Mari kita tidak bertengkar tentang ini.)

C. Softening Commands (Melembutkan Perintah)

Agar terdengar lebih sopan, kita bisa menambahkan kata "please" atau menggunakan struktur "Can you...?".

·         Please sit down. (Silakan duduk.)

·         Can you help me, please? (Bisakah kamu membantu saya?)

·         Could you close the window? (Bisakah kamu menutup jendelanya?)

Part 2: Past Tense with 'last' and 'Ago' (Masa Lalu dengan 'last' dan 'Ago')

Kata 'last' dan 'ago' adalah dua kata kunci yang sangat umum untuk membicarakan masa lalu.

A. Using "Last"

"Last" berarti "yang lalu". Letakkan sebelum kata yang menunjukkan waktu (week, month, year, Monday, etc.).

·         I watched a movie last night. (Saya menonton film tadi malam.)

·         She visited her family last week. (Dia mengunjungi keluarganya minggu lalu.)

·         They got married last year. (Mereka menikah tahun lalu.)

·         We had a test last Monday. (Kami ada ujian hari Senin lalu.)

B. Using "Ago"

"Ago" berarti "yang lalu" dan diletakkan setelah keterangan waktu. Polanya: Period of time + ago.

·         I finished my homework ten minutes ago. (Saya menyelesaikan PR sepuluh menit yang lalu.)

·         He left for London two days ago. (Dia berangkat ke London dua hari yang lalu.)

·         My father bought this car five years ago. (Ayah saya membeli mobil ini lima tahun yang lalu.)

·         They arrived a long time ago. (Mereka tiba sudah lama sekali.)

Perbedaan Utama:

·         Last + (time word): last weeklast month

·         (Period of time) + agoa week agotwo months ago

 

Part 3: Talk About Childhood (Berbicara Tentang Masa Kecil)

Masa kecil adalah topik percakapan yang menyenangkan. Untuk membicarakannya, kita hampir selalu menggunakan Simple Past Tense.

A. Common Phrases (Frasa Umum)

·         When I was a child... (Ketika saya masih kecil...)

·         When I was a little kid... (Ketika saya masih anak-anak...)

·         Back in my childhood... (Pada masa kecil saya dulu...)

·         I used to... (Dulu saya biasanya...)

B. Common Verbs & Activities (Kata Kerja & Aktivitas Umum)

·         play with friends (bermain dengan teman)

·         live in a small village (tinggal di sebuah desa kecil)

·         be afraid of the dark (takut akan kegelapan)

·         love to eat ice cream (suka makan es krim)

·         hate vegetables (benci sayuran)

·         go to elementary school (pergi ke sekolah dasar)

C. Example Sentences (Contoh Kalimat)

1.      When I was a child, I lived in Bandung.
(Saat saya kecil, saya tinggal di Bandung.)

2.      I used to play football every evening with my neighbors.
(Saya dulu biasanya bermain sepak bola setiap sore dengan tetangga.)

3.      My brother and I were very close.
(Saya dan saudara laki-laki saya sangat dekat.)

4.      I wasn't very tall when I was 10 years old.
(Saya tidak terlalu tinggi ketika berumur 10 tahun.)

5.      My favorite toy was a teddy bear.
(Mainan favorit saya adalah boneka beruang.)

 

Let's Practice! (Ayo Berlatih!)

A. Buatlah kalimat perintah dari situasi berikut:

1.      Temanmu berbicara terlalu keras di perpustakaan.

2.      Kamu ingin mengajak saudaramu belajar untuk ujian.

3.      Kamu meminta seseorang untuk tidak merokok di dalam ruangan.

B. Lengkapi kalimat dengan 'last' atau 'ago':

1.      I started my new job two months ______.

2.      Did you see the football match ______ night?

3.      She called me five minutes ______.

Jawaban:
A: 1. Please be quiet. / Don't speak loudly. | 2. Let's study for the exam. | 3. Don't smoke in here, please.
B: 1. ago | 2. last | 3. ago
