Menguasai Ungkapan Meminta dan Memberi Informasi (Asking and Giving Information)
Bagian 1: Klasifikasi Ungkapan Berdasarkan Tingkat
Formalitas
Dalam bahasa Inggris, cara kita meminta informasi sangat
dipengaruhi oleh kepada siapa kita
berbicara.
kategori utama:
┌─── FORMAL / POLITE (Sopan) │ Digunakan untuk: Orang asing, guru, atasan, situasi resmi.TINGKAT FORMALITAS UNGKAPAN ──────┤ │ └─── INFORMAL / CASUAL (Santai) Digunakan untuk: Teman sebaya, keluarga, situasi santai.1. Asking for Information (Meminta Informasi)
A. Ragam Formal & Sopan (Polite Expressions)
Ungkapan ini biasanya menggunakan modal verbs seperti Could atau Would, atau diawali dengan frasa
tidak langsung (Indirect
Questions) agar terdengar lebih halus.
·
Could you tell me...? (Bisakah Anda memberi tahu
saya...?)
·
Could anyone inform me about...? (Adakah yang bisa
menginformasikan saya tentang...?)
·
Would you happen to know...? (Apakah Anda kebetulan
tahu...?)
·
I was wondering if you could tell me... (Saya
bertanya-tanya apakah Anda bisa memberi tahu saya...)
·
I would like to know... (Saya ingin tahu...)
·
Excuse me, do you know...? (Permisi, apakah Anda
tahu...?)
B. Ragam Informal & Santai (Casual Expressions)
kata tanya WH-Questions (What, Where, When, Who, Why, How).
·
Do you know...? (Kamu tahu...?)
·
What is...? / Where is...? (Apa...? / Di mana...?)
·
Any idea where...? (Ada ide di mana...?)
·
Can you help me find...? (Bisa bantu aku nyari...?)
·
Tell me about... (Ceritakan padaku tentang...)
2. Giving Information (Memberi Informasi)
Sama halnya dengan meminta, memberikan informasi juga
memiliki respons penanda sebelum kita menyampaikan fakta yang ditanyakan.
A. Ketika Anda Mengetahui Informasinya (Positive
Responses)
·
Formal: "I would be happy to help you. The
library is..." / "Certainly, here is the information..."
·
Informal: "Sure! It's right over there." /
"Yeah, I know that. It starts at..."
B. Ketika Anda TIDAK Mengetahui Informasinya (Negative
Responses)
terkesan kasar.
·
Formal: "I am afraid I don't have that
information." / "I'm sorry, I'm not sure about that."
·
Informal: "Sorry, I don't know." / "No
idea." / "I haven't got a clue."

Menguasai Percakapan Sehari-hari (Daily Conversations) dan Praktik Komunikasi
Kontekstual (Campus Role Play)
Bagian 1: Pengosakataan & Pola Percakapan
Sehari-hari (Daily Conversations)
Mari kita bedah tiga pilar utama interaksi harian:
menyapa, meminta tolong, dan mengundang seseorang.
1. Greeting and Small Talk (Menyapa dan Basa-basi)
Basa-basi (small
talk) adalah jembatan sosial. Dalam budaya Barat dan komunikasi bahasa
Inggris profesional, langsung menuju inti masalah tanpa menyapa dianggap kurang
sopan.
┌─── FORMAL: "Good morning, how have you been?" │ Respons: "I have been well, thank you."SAPAAN (GREETINGS) ─┤ │ └─── INFORMAL: "Hey, what's up? / How's it going?" Respons: "Not much." / "Pretty good!"Variasi Ungkapan & Contoh Eksplisit:
·
Formal:
o Question: "How do
you do?" (Khusus untuk orang yang pertama kali ditemui). $\rightarrow$ Response: "How do
you do?"
o Question: "How are
you holding up?" (Menanyakan kabar di situasi sibuk). $\rightarrow$ Response: "Doing
well, despite the exams."
·
Informal:
o Question: "What
have you been up to lately?" (Apa kesibukanmu akhir-akhir ini?). $\rightarrow$
Response:
"Just the usual class routine."
🗨️ Perluasan Dialog 1 (Di Halte Bus Kampus):
·
Andy: "Hey Maya! Long time no see. How’s
everything going?"
·
Maya: "Oh, hey Andy! Everything is great. I’m
just wrapping up my mid-term projects. How about you?"
·
Andy: "Can't complain. I'm actually just waiting
for the campus shuttle right now. Are you heading home?"
·
Maya: "No, I'm waiting for my friend, Jessica. We
planned to grab some boba nearby."
2. Asking for Help (Meminta Bantuan)
penggunaan modal verbs (Can, Could, Would) untuk
melunakkan permintaan agar tidak terdengar seperti kalimat perintah (command).
Strategi Kebahasaan:
·
Gunakan "Could you..." atau "Would you mind..."
untuk tingkat kesopanan tinggi.
·
Catatan Tata Bahasa: Setelah frasa "Would you mind",
kata kerja wajib menggunakan bentuk -ing (Gerund).
o Salah: Would you mind help me?
o Benar: Would you mind helping me?
🗨️ Perluasan Dialog 2 (Di Lab Komputer):
·
Bagas: "Excuse me, Risa. I’m sorry to bother you,
but can you help me with this programming assignment?"
·
Risa: "Of course! What seems to be the problem?
What do you need?"
·
Bagas: "I honestly don’t understand question
number three. My code keeps showing an error."
·
Risa: "Ah, let’s see it together. Oh, look, you
forgot to put a semicolon at the end of line twelve."
·
Bagas: "Wow, I completely missed that. Thank you
so much, Risa!"
3. Making and Accepting/Declining Invitations
menolak.
Variasi Ungkapan:
·
Membuat Undangan: "Would you be interested in joining...?" / "Do you want to hang
out...?"
·
Menerima Undangan: "I’d love to!" / "That sounds like a
plan!" / "Count
me in!"
·
Menolak Undangan: "I’d love to, but unfortunately I have another
commitment." / "Rain
check? I'm tied up today." (Rain check adalah idiom untuk meminta penundaan lain
waktu).
🗨️ Perluasan Dialog 3 (Di Lorong Kelas):
·
Chandra: "Hey, we are going to study for the
upcoming accounting test. Would you like to join our study group?"
·
Dina: "Yes, I’d love to! Accounting is killing me
this semester. When and where will we meet?"
·
Chandra: "Tomorrow afternoon around 3:00 p.m. at
the central library's discussion room."
·
Dina: "Great! See you then. I’ll bring some
snacks."
